Connect your MCP client to Orbit to work with directories you can access. Use the same Google or email-and-password sign-in as Orbit. You do not need to paste an API key into chat. Use https://api.orbitsearch.com/mcp in an OAuth-capable MCP client. See Connect to Orbit with MCP for setup. Directory management requires a signed-in user; an API key alone supports people search and enrichment, not directory management.

Choose your organization

Ask Orbit to list your organizations and directories. Select the organization you intend to use before creating or changing a directory. Your existing role and directory permissions determine which actions are available. Directory workflows request separate read and write permissions. If your connection predates directory support, reconnect when your MCP client prompts you. You may need to sign in again for directory access even while people search continues to work. Never share your password or access tokens in a chat message.

Create and organize

Try these requests:
  • “List my Orbit directories.”
  • “Create a private directory called Conference Contacts in my selected organization.”
  • “Add this Orbit profile to Conference Contacts.”
  • “Find engineers within Conference Contacts, not the global index.”
  • “Show members imported from this source.”
Confirm the destination and visibility before creating a directory. Public visibility changes who can discover it. When researching a member, Orbit reads the matched profile rather than relying only on the directory’s summary card.

Import people

Provide CSV text and ask Orbit to map its columns and import it into a selected directory. Review the mapping before continuing. The MCP tool accepts up to 512 KiB of CSV text; use the Orbit dashboard for larger files or directory logo and banner uploads. Ask for import status after upload. Accepted or queued work is not yet complete. Orbit reports processing state and validation problems so you can distinguish successful rows from unresolved or failed rows. Do not repeat an upload merely because processing is still running. You can also populate a directory using known company or school identifiers. Confirm the selection criteria and any research costs before continuing.

Share and manage membership

Ask Orbit to show a directory’s current access grants before changing them. Confirm the recipient and whether they should have search, upload, or management access. A directory request cannot grant you a role you do not already have. Confirm the exact members before removing them. Restoration depends on the window returned by Orbit. Archiving a directory is not permanent data erasure.

Follow changes

Request a one-time refresh for selected members or everyone in a directory. Confirm the selection and organization credit usage before starting. Ask for progress rather than submitting the same refresh again. For ongoing updates, choose members, a schedule, and the checks you want. Scheduled watcher runs consume Orbit credits. Ask Orbit to pause or delete a watcher when you no longer need it, and read the directory activity feed for dated updates with supporting sources.
